1.       ALIN launches two other Maarifa centres in partnership with Drought Management Initiative (DMI) in Merti and El Wak

2.       ALIN develops a new strategy covering the period 2010-2015 known as “ALIN 3” It focuses on strengthening the Maarifa centres as the main avenue for engagement with the communities.


·         ALIN wins the Access to Learning Award (ATLA) given annually by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation’s Global Libraries Initiative. The award enables ALIN to roll out formalized training in computing and ICT skills across Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania

·          The Regional Director Mr. James Nguo is nominated an Ashoka Fellow, (https://www.ashoka.org/about) a global organization that identifies and invests in leading social entrepreneurs - individuals with innovative and practical ideas for solving social problems.

·         ALIN’s celebrates its 10th Anniversary


·         ALIN is awarded UNESCO IPDC Prize for Rural Communication

·         ALIN resumes Baobab production following funding support by the Centre for Learning on Sustainable Agriculture (ILEIA) through a grant secured from the Swedish Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA) on behalf of the Agricultures Network

·         Establishment of a Super Centres in Gulu University


·         ALIN launches an online market access and knowledge management platform Sokopepe (www.sokopepe.co.ke)

·         ALIN Ndhiwa (Homa Bay County) and Mutomo (Kitui County) Maarifa centres in Kenya involved in the Adobe Youth Voices Programme under which 60 youths in Ndhiwa and Mutomo were trained on video documentation and photo-journalism skills

·         ALIN installs a solar wind/hybrid system boosting the energy requirements for smooth running of Nguruman Maarifa center


·         ALIN wins Youth in Agriculture Blog Competition (YoBloCo Awards)

·         ALIN partners with United Nations Development Program (UNDP) Global Environment Facility (GEF) Small Grants Programme (SGP) to produce Laikipia Maliasili Newsletter
